| Sea Frogs and Magpies Electroacoustic 8' 08" 1995 Excerpt1 (0 '16" 22Khz stereo Mp3 132kb) In 1994 I made some recordings of Striped Marsh Frogs from the North coast of NSW. At the time the marsh was filled with the incessant 'tocks' made by the frogs, together with magpie calls and the background sounds of the ocean. Recently, I took this recording and started transforming, analysing and resynthesising the sounds. Using a technique known as phase vocoding, I was able to extract and swap the spectrums of the sounds recorded. In this manner I tried to created an inter-related sound world, often far removed from the original sounds. I have tried to arrange these sounds to construct their own narrative and associations. Technical info - the piece was synthesised between an IBM-PC and a Silicon Graphics Computer (for the serious stuff). Spectrum modifications were done using some home grown code.
